This obesity and cardiovascular disease research study is enrolling adults who have been diagnosed with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, including prior heart attack, ischemic stroke, or symptomatic peripheral artery disease. Candidates who have not recently used GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic or Wegovy may be eligible. We welcome those wondering how to sign up for an obesity clinical trial or whether they qualify. Screening Questions

Do you have a history of serious diabetic eye disease, such as proliferative retinopathy or maculopathy?

Have you used GLP-1 medications (e.g., Ozempic, Wegovy), GIP medications, amylin analogs, or insulin pumps in the past 90 days?

Are you 45 years of age or older?

Have you had bariatric surgery within the past 6 months or plan to have it soon?

Have you been diagnosed with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), including at least one of the following: prior heart attack (MI), ischemic stroke, or symptomatic peripheral artery disease (PAD)?

Have you had a heart attack, stroke, hospitalization for chest pain, or cardiovascular surgery within the last 60 days?

Do you have a Class IV heart failure, or were you hospitalized for heart failure within the past 60 days?

Who can participate in this study?

Adults aged 45 and older with a history of cardiovascular disease and a BMI of 27 or higher may qualify.

What kind of heart or vascular conditions are required?

You must have had one of the following: a heart attack (MI), an ischemic stroke, or peripheral artery disease (PAD), such as leg pain while walking, artery surgery, or amputation due to circulation issues.

Are there specific weight requirements?

Yes. You must have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 27 or higher, which falls within the overweight or obese range.

What is involved in the screening process?

Before doing any study procedures, you must sign an informed consent form and go through a screening visit to confirm eligibility.

Can I join if I have other health conditions?

Possibly. As long as you meet the main study requirements and your other conditions are stable, your eligibility will be assessed by the study team.

What will I need to do if I qualify?

You’ll participate in regular study visits, complete health assessments, and follow all study-related instructions as part of your care plan.
