Screening Questions

Is your child a female between the ages of 14 and 17, and has she had regular menstrual cycles for at least the last 2 years?

Has her blood pressure typically been below 140/90 mm Hg at routine checkups?

Are you and your child willing for her to participate in a 13-cycle (about 1 year) contraceptive study, where she will either take a daily study pill or use non-hormonal methods only?

Has your child ever been diagnosed with any of the following: blood clots, liver or kidney disease, adrenal gland problems, hormone-sensitive cancer, or unexplained vaginal bleeding?

Who can join this study?

Girls aged 14 to 17 with regular periods who have had their first period at least 2 years ago may be eligible.

What if I’ve been pregnant before?

You can participate if your period has returned for at least 6 months since your last pregnancy.

Are there any health checks required?

Yes, your blood pressure must be under 140/90 mmHg during the screening visit after a short rest.

What kind of birth control will I use in the study?

Depending on your assigned group, you’ll either take a hormonal birth control pill or use non-hormonal contraception for about 13 monthly cycles.

Do I need to give permission to join?

Yes. You’ll need to provide written consent or assent (if you’re under 18), before starting any study procedures.
